BOOKBRIEFS

Dr. Simon Kistemaker -- Commentary on II Corinthians has been published by Baker Book House. He is now well underway with his final volume in the series, Commentary on Revelation.

Dr. William Richardson -- a volume on the family and parenting skills, Train Up A Child: A Christian Parent’s Handbook.

Dr. Richard Pratt -- a commentary on 1 and 2 Chronicles to be published by Christian Focus Publications. Also he contributed to the forthcoming Dictionary of Biblical Imagery (InterVarsity Press) to be released this summer.

Dr. Reggie Kidd -- under contract to write a book How Can I Keep From Singing? Biblical Explorations Regarding Music in the Church due out in Summer, 1998.

John Muether -- co-writer of an article on Presbyterian history in the Orthodox Presbyterian Church’s quarterly magazine, Ordained Servant.

Dr. Duncan Rankin --under contract with Christian Focus Publications in Scotland to write a book on Scottish theologians.

Michael Glodo --contributed to the forthcoming Dictionary of Biblical Imagery (InterVarsity Press) due to be released this summer.

Dr. Bruce Waltke -- has just completed a two-volume commentary on Proverbs.

Dr. John Currid -- is nearing completion of Archeology and Biblical Studies to be published by Baker Book House. He will also write two commentaries, one on Exodus for Evangelical Press in England and one on Genesis for Christian Focus Publications in Scotland.

TRAVELBRIEFS

Dr. Roy Taylor taught a course on preaching and communication at the Hong Kong Bible Seminary in October. He also taught a course on pastoral ministry and church growth at the International Center for Theological Studies in Indonesia.

Dr. Ronald Nash presented a lecture at the medical school of the University of Alabama in Birmingham. He also gave four lectures at Crichton College in Memphis.

Dr. J.I. Packer will be the guest speaker for the Academic Lecture Series at RTS/Orlando May 5-7.

Dr. Richard Pratt and John Currid have consulted with Dreamworks, the movie studio of Steven Spielberg, regarding a full-length animated movie on the life of Moses entitled The Prince of Egypt.

Reverend Steve Childers was the keynote speaker at a national church planting conference in Japan in October. It was sponsored by the Church Planting Institute of the Japanese Evangelical Missions Association.

Dr. Bruce Waltke read a paper at the Society of Biblical Literature. He has also written an essay in the Faces of Old Testament Studies entitled "Wisdom Literature" due to be published by Baker Book House in 1998.

As President of CHEPSIS (Christian Higher Education Professionals Serving International Students), Dr. Enoch Wan coordinated the annual conference in Phoenix, Arizona. He also presented a paper at the Evangelical Theological Society’s annual meeting in California.

RTS ALUM ELECTED

Dr. Dean Register (RTS ‘ 95) was recently elected President of the Mississippi Baptist Convention. Register is Senior Pastor of Temple Baptist Church in Hattiesburg, Mississippi.

RTS PARTNERS WITH WILLOW CREEK

Willow Creek Church in Barrington, Illinois, and RTS have partnered to provide accredited courses on both doctoral and masters degree levels. Interested students should contact the Willow Creek Institute to receive a schedule of courses.

RANKIN RECEIVES APPOINTMENT

Dr. Duncan Rankin, Assistant Professor of Theology at RTS/Jackson, has been named to the Nomination Committee for the selection of a new Executive Chairman of the International Lausanne Committee for World Evangelization.

CANNADAS TRAVEL TO ISRAEL

Dr. and Mrs. Ric Cannada traveled to Israel in January with the Fellowship of Evangelical Seminary presidents. The group met with Israeli officials and viewed archeological sites.

INTERNET SEMINAR AT RTS/CHARLOTTE

Reverend Ken McMullen, RTS/Charlotte Librarian, will teach a seminar on how local churches can use the Internet on April 25.

RTS GOLF TOURNAMENT

RTS/Orlando hosted the Second Annual RTS Invitational Golf Tournament in Oviedo, Florida. Wally Armstrong, nationally recognized golf instructor, provided a gold clinic for participants.

YOUNG GIVES ADDRESS

Dr. Jerry Young (RTS ‘81), pastor of New Hope Baptist Church in Jackson and a leader among African-American Baptists, recently gave an address to the Mississippi Baptist Convention.

JOHNSON GIVES ADDRESS

Washington Johnson (RTS ‘96) recently gave an address at Meharry Medical College in Nashville, Tennessee, on the issue of violence in the African-American community and the church’s response. Meharry is one of only three historically black medical colleges in America.

TORRANCE LECTURES

Dr. James Torrance, Professor Emeritus of Systematic Theology at the University of Aberdeen in Scotland, presented a series of one-hour lectures at RTS/Charlotte in November.

WHITLOCK GIVES ADDRESS

Dr. Luder Whitlock, president of RTS, gave the keynote address for the annual meeting of the National Commission on Higher Education in Orlando.
